The U.S. Grant Hotel in San Diego pays tribute to San Diego International Airport’s recent upgrade and Charles Lindbergh’s stay at the hotel in 1927 -- all in one tidy little deal. In honor of the aviation events from two different centuries, guests who book a suite at the Grant may stay a second night for $19.27.

The deal: The Lindbergh Legacy, as the offer is called, offers the second and fourth nights in a suite for $19.27 a night plus tax. It requires a two-night minimum stay, and reservations may be made online or by phone. (Note that the online booking won’t reflect the discount; the bill will be adjusted later.)

But back to Lindbergh and the airport. When he stayed at the hotel at 326 Broadway, the aviation pioneer was waiting for his famed Spirit of St. Louis to be built. And the airport, now also known as Lindbergh Field, this month is rolling out its $1-billion Green Build expansion that has added 10 gates, bigger waiting areas, curbside kiosks for easy check-ins and new restaurants.

When: The deal is good through Dec. 31, based on availability.

Tested: Suites don’t come cheap at this hotel, so the second-night discount really makes a difference for a weekend of luxury. I found the deal available Oct. 4-6 for what’s called a Legacy Suite, which measures 400 sq. ft. to 500 sq. ft. and includes a sitting area. The cost is $644 for the first night and $19.27 for the second night, which brings the cost of each night down to $331 (prices exclude tax).
