San Francisco's artsy cabin in the sky
The cabin art project called "Manifest Destiny!" hangs on the side of a hotel in downtown San Francisco. It's small and uninhabitable, but, as the title suggests, carries a weighty message about what it meant to push West in the 19th century -- and what the West looks like now after all the pushing. For visitors and anyone caught unaware, the cabin is a thrilling urban surprise, particularly at night when it glows.--Mary Forgione
