Need to finish TSA’s PreCheck application? LAX office opens Thursday
Fliers who want to complete their enrollment in the Transportation Security Administration’s PreCheck program will be able to do so at at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) starting Thursday, according to a TSA announcement.
The TSA will open an application center in LAX’s Terminal 5 for folks who have already completed an online application. PreCheck expedites security screening at airports, allowing travelers to sail through security with shoes, belts and jackets on, and laptops and liquids kept inside their carry-on bags.
TSA application centers already have opened in Glendale, Carson and Signal Hill. The agency is on track to open 300 application centers across the nation.
Here’s how the program works: You enroll in PreCheck online and pay $85. Then you have to go to an application center -- either after making an appointment or by just walking in -- where you will be fingerprinted and your identification verified.
If you are already enrolled in U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s Global Entry Program (which costs $100), you automatically receive PreCheck status.
The PreCheck program is available through nine airlines in more than 100 airports. In addition to LAX, its expedited security lanes are also open at John Wayne Airport in Santa Ana and Bob Hope Airport in Burbank.
