Valentine's Day: Where to go, from $5 to $1,500
Where's the best place to spend Valentine's Day? Social media site Foursquare combed through 3 billion check-ins to find that San Francisco, New Orleans and New York City were deemed the most romantic cities in the U.S. The least appealing to lovebirds? Trenton, N.J.; Akron, Ohio; and Virginia Beach, Va. French restaurants, cupcake shops and wineries were found to be the most popular places to celebrate Valentine's Day. But for those who crave something different this year, here are 10 places to go and things to do on Cupid's big day.

Not a royal we yet?( Kirk McKoy / Los Angeles Times )
When Prince William proposed to Catherine Middleton, he likely had plenty of how-to coaching. The rest of us have been left on our own -- until now. The Perfect Proposal Toolkit and hotline [(855) 476-6622] from the American Gem Society is available through Feb. 15. It covers do's and don'ts (a big no-no: not knowing the answer). It offers advice on how to tweet a proposal and other fine points of popping the question. The toolkit is rather groom-centric, but works for anyone needing a tutorial on popping the question.
