What are you doing this weekend? Exploring Torrey Pines
If you're heading south to San Diego, it's worth a stop at an extraordinary strip of the city (yes, it's in city limits!) that's beyond wild. Torrey Pines State Reserve is small, walkable and the most amazing confluence of sandstone cliffs and ocean views. But of course, the real stars of this wild place are the rare pines that bend and sway along the bluffs.

The ranger station and visitor center was built in 1922 as the Torrey Pines Lodge, a former restaurant. Today it houses artifacts and exhibits as well as a gift shop. Start here to get oriented and review hiking trails in the reserve.
