Does Beverly Hills need a new power lunch spot? We’re about to find out. Barneys New York is renovating its fifth-floor restaurant space (goodbye, Barney Greengrass) and plans to open an outlet of Freds, its signature restaurant, next month.

Department store eateries are more of a convenience than a destination for ladies who lunch, but Freds aims to be a buzzworthy neighborhood venue for shoppers and diners looking for a complete meal and a glass of wine in an elegant setting. The Los Angeles version (there are sister restaurants in New York and Chicago), designed by residential architects and designers Steven Harris and Lucien Rees Roberts, will offer lunch, dinner and weekend brunch in the space outfitted with custom ceiling sculptures, a sleek stone bar with a faceted mirror wall and marble tables.

Executive chef Mark Strausman will serve Italian pastas and pizzas, some of the New York favorites —think Estelle’s chicken soup, Mark’s Madison Avenue chopped salad and Freds’ Belgium French fries. Strausman says he is working with local vendors and small family farms to use seasonal ingredients and will exclusively serve California grass-fed beef. One of the new, Beverly Hills-specific additions to the menu is the Beverly Hills club sandwich made with shrimp and crab in place of turkey. And if you’re mourning the loss of your bagel-brunch-fueled shopping sprees that came courtesy of Barney Greengrass, the restaurant will offer weekend brunch with New York deli-style bagels, smoked fish and cream cheese.

To sip? Wine and beer, a full bar with signature cocktails and fresh juices you can order at your table or in the new lounge area. Libations may come in handy when you need to rationalize that $1,295 Stella McCartney Falabella Shaggy Deer backpack you were eyeing on the first floor.

And because it wouldn’t be alfresco dining in L.A. without a proper city backdrop, the designers added extra space to the patio so you can enjoy your sunset cocktail with a breeze and a view of the Hollywood Hills.

Freds is set to open sometime in October and will operate 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Mondays-Wednesdays and Fridays; 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Thursdays, and 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.
