Clearing The Way

The U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Bollard heads up the Connecticut River toward Hartford as it breaks up ice, as seen from the Arrigoni Bridge, connecting Portland and Middletown. A primary winter mission for the 65-foot Bollard is to break up ice so barges can pass through. With so many days of below-freezing temperatures recently, ice was having a field day till the Bollard came along.
