GETTING THERE:

From LAX, connecting service to Miami (change of planes) is available on American Airlines, changing to US Airways. Restricted round-trip fares begin at $717.

WHERE TO STAY:

Bahama Villa, Ten Bay; (866) 423-9107, https://www.bahamavilla.com. We’ve stayed here the last two years. Rates for up to four people are about $1,070 per week November to April, $920 per week May to October.

There are scores of villas on Eleuthera near Palmetto Point, the closest town to Ten Bay, in varying sizes and price ranges. Web sites to check: https://www.greatrentals.com, https://www.cyberrentals.com, https://www.worldwidevillas.com, https://www.bahamasvacationhomes.com.

Be sure to ask questions: Is it quiet? How far to the beach? Is there air-conditioning? Make sure you understand the rules about deposits, cancellations and refunds.

WHERE TO EAT:

Mate & Jenny’s Pizza Restaurant and Bar, South Palmetto Point, (242) 332-1504, is an island favorite known for its conch pizzas, fresh grouper and roast chicken dinners. Dinner entrees start at $14.

Sunset Inn, Queen’s Highway south of Governor’s Harbour, (242) 332-2487. Views of the sea and the stunning sunsets from the small dining room and patio. Simple, well-prepared Bahamian specialties such as cracked conch with fries and salad; excellent pork chops. Entrees start at $10.

Unique Village, Unique Village Resort, North Palmetto Point, (242) 332-1830, offers breakfast, lunch and dinner along with great views. Specialties include cracked conch and lobster. Dinner entrees, $14-$32.
