Telus World Ski & Snowboard Festival

Whistler-Blackcomb holds an annual sports fest that’s as much about art and music as it is about sports. The event includes what’s billed as the biggest free outdoor concert series in North America, with 10 days of tunes featuring such bands as the John Butler Trio, Michael Franti & Spearhead, Trews and Wintersleep. The ProPhotographer Showdown pits the world’s top photographers of action sports (particularly of the snowboarding/skateboarding /mountaineering variety). Fashion Exposed is a high-energy runway show. And competitors in the 72 Hour Filmmaker Showdown gather at Whistler to shoot, edit and produce a five-minute film in just three days. Then there are the sports: the snowboarding Superpipe contest; the Orage Masters, with top skiers competing in costume; and Big Air, with top international skiers and riders competing to the sound of thumping music.

When, where: April 11 to 20 at locations at Whistler-Blackcomb ski resort, 4545 Blackcomb Way, Whistler.
