Guanajuato, Mexico

Colorful homes surround the churches and the main square in historic Guanajuato in the central highlands of Mexico, about 200 miles northwest of Mexico City. Though not a popular destination for U.S. tourists, Guanajuato is famous throughout Mexico for its silver mines, annual arts festival, mummy museum and wandering bands of musicians who stroll through the narrow, winding streets playing traditional music and telling the city's stories.
