THE BEST WAY TO HEALDSBURG, CALIF.

From LAX, nonstop service to Santa Rosa, about eight miles from Healdsburg, is available on Alaska operated by Horizon Air, as is connecting service. American and US Airways connect through Las Vegas to Alaska, also operated by Horizon. Restricted round-trip fares begin at $222.

Hotel Healdsburg, 25 Matheson St.; (800) 889-7188, https://www.hotelhealdsburg.com. Right on the plaza, with a very cool raised glass walkway, this classy hotel is modern and comfortable. There’s a pool, a fabulous spa, and most rooms have little balconies. The Dry Creek Kitchen is downstairs. Doubles begin at $295 and include a substantial breakfast.

Duchamp Hotel, 421 Foss St.; (800) 431-9341, https://www.duchamphotel.com. The Duchamp was named for French American Dadaist Marcel Duchamp. Note the replica of a Duchamp sculpture in the parking lot; it’s the thing that looks like a gigantic cupcake holder. There are just six minimalist cottage suites, three of them facing the pool, with private patios and enormous glass doors. The suites begin at $350 and include continental breakfast.

Healdsburg Modern Cottages, 425 Foss St.; (866) 964-0110, https://www.healdsburgcottages.com. Each of the four minimalist cottages is named after a 20th century modern furniture designer (Eileen Gray, Ray and Charles Eames, George Nelson) and is furnished largely from Design Within Reach. The Ray has small kitchen. The cottages sit around a pool and are designed for privacy; there’s no hotel staff on property. Rates begin at $250.
