Simplicity and solitude at Baja's tip

Simplicity and solitude at Baja's tip Sky, sea and sand. That's exactly what Sherri Witkowski captured with a Kodak DX3900. In August, she stayed at the Hotel Solmar Suites in Cabo San Lucas at the tip of Baja, Mexico, and had this view of the Gulf of California. Witkowski, of Los Alamitos, said the beach looked gorgeous — but there was no swimming. Too much undertow. But that led to the serenity the picture captured. "It reminds me of an Edward Hopper painting," she says. Why we chose this photo By Robin Rauzi, Assistant Travel Editor Sherri explained the appeal of this photo as well or better than I could. It's the simplicity. Stark sunlight, straight lines of shadow. I love the color palette as well -- the teal of the inset in the wall, offset against the bright white, tan and blues of the sea and sky.
