DON'T BE MISLED by all the tourist marketing here. The contents of my car, probably something like $4,000 worth of stuff, were robbed in Napier. I parked across from the main park, right in front of a bed and breakfast. The burg is full of unemployed Maori malcontents. Property crime is rampant in New Zealand. Everyone lies to gain hard currency from unsuspecting foreigners. Really, there's not much to recommend either North or South Island.
