The California Bucket List: Your daily guide to the best adventures and experiences in the Golden State

Your Scene

Aug. 17 Tedd Wenrick of Santa Monica took this unexpected close-up in early July while driving through Custer State Park in the Black Hills of South Dakota. His friend, Jeanne Shoemaker, was driving when the donkey walked right up to the car and stuck its head in. Though known for having one of the largest buffalo herds in the U.S., the park is also home to a variety of other wildlife, especially wild donkeys. Wenrick used a Canon EOS 30D.
