Mar. 23 A swimmer with a smile Veteran diver Steve Chaput of Claremont had a close encounter with one of the largest creatures of the deep -- this whale shark -- on an October 2006 dive off Darwin Island in the Galapagos Islands of Ecuador. "They are docile creatures and amazing to see," he said. Chaput used a Canon PowerShot S-70 in a waterproof case.
