Cultural landscape of Hadley( World Monuments Fund )
The "open-field" farming system in Hadley's Great Meadow is defined by slender, unfenced agricultural land parcels laid out by English Puritan colonists in the 17th century. Only the earliest New England settlements set up this type of agricultural system, making the one in Hadley incredibly rare. Hadley is next to the Connecticut River in western Massachusetts.
