What to do with hotel towels (instead of trying to swipe them)
I have never had the urge nor the need to steal a hotel towel, but if I did, I would want to have a darn good reason to do so. The hotel chain La Quinta Inns & Suites used its towels to form a U.S. flag in Hawaii big enough to snag a Guinness World Record for the largest towel mosaic.
The “flag” assembled last Friday measured 26,390 square feet on the lawn of the Waikoloa Bowl in Waikoloa on the Big Island. Participants who attended the company’s annual conference placed 2,500 red, white and blue towels onto a pre-designed grid on the ground.
Towels were then donated to a foundation that provides housing for families of military members and veterans who are being treated at local VA hospitals.
On the same day, the hotel’s participants also set records for the longest human towel chain (1,113) and the longest high-five chain (1,110) -- with all three events completed in 90 minutes.
So the towel mosaic title could be claimed by anyone who steals the idea (not the towels) and outdoes the big flag.
