Where am I?: Big dome, but what politics?


Capitolio, says the sign on this august building. But it's been half a century since the marble halls beneath this 300-foot dome have been occupied by a legislative body. These days, it holds an academy of sciences and library of science and technology.

We're in a country that speaks a lot of Spanish, or is it Italian? The building was completed about the time the U.S. fell into the Great Depression of the 20th century. Unlike the U.S. Capitol, however, this one has never burned down. Our CIA says infants in this country have a lower mortality rate than in the U.S. - -but once they grow up, they're banned from buying computers or using the internet without government permission.
