Nov. 23 Most of the year, polar bears are solitary animals out on the ice pack. But in mid-October, they begin gathering in Churchill, Canada, where they wait for the ice to freeze on Hudson Bay -- their winter hunting grounds. Martin Voet of Mission Viejo took this shot from one of the bear-proof buses in Churchill. He used a Nikon D-100 digital with a 200-500-millimeter zoom.
