5. The mission, the dead and the boulders

When 118 crosses the north end of Topanga Canyon Boulevard, get off and park. See the towering boulders? This is 76-acre Stoney Point Park. Outlaws hid out here in the 19th century, and rock-climbing pioneers Royal Robbins and Yvon Chouinard (founder of the Patagonia outdoor clothing company) did a lot of learning here in the '50s and '60s.
