Petty theft: 4400 block of Oak Grove Drive. A woman reported that sometime between 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., while she had been registering her seventh-grade daughter in classes at the La Cañada High School campus, someone had stolen a wallet from her unattended purse. She’d placed the purse on a bench outside the library and found upon her return that her green Kate Spade wallet, containing miscellaneous papers, two credit cards and the victim’s driver’s license, had been taken from the purse. Although a lot of people were attending the event, the woman did not see anyone take the wallet. She informed a campus security guard and the assistant principal, who reviewed a surveillance tape of the area. Due to the “grainy” nature of the video, nothing relevant could be seen. The woman said she’d contacted both credit companies to cancel the cards. Neither card had been used.

Grand theft from unlocked vehicle: 4800 block of Crown Avenue. On July 5, a man left his unlocked 2006 Jeep Liberty parked along the curb of his residence. When he returned to the vehicle on Aug. 7 at 4 p.m., he noticed the vehicle appeared to have been rifled through in his absence. Items were scattered throughout the interior. In the trunk, a bag containing a camcorder was opened and the camera, along with an iPod remote audio link, had been taken. Fingerprints could not be taken, as the victim had washed the car before calling the Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Station. No witnesses could be located.

Petty theft from unlocked vehicle: 4400 block of Hampton Road. A woman reported that sometime between 5 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. Sunday, someone had entered her unlocked 2013 GMC Terrain and stolen several items from inside. When the victim arrived at her car Sunday morning, she noticed paperwork scattered about the passenger seat. A camera case, containing a camera and memory card, were taken from the glove compartment, while an iPod in the center console and two Samsonite suitcases from the cargo area were also stolen. Fingerprints were not taken, as the victim had used the SUV since the incident.

Burglary, attempted: 4600 block of Hampton Road. A man reported that sometime between 5 p.m. on Friday and 10:40 a.m. that day, someone had attempted to enter his garage through the garage door. When the homeowner tried to open the door remotely, it would not work. That’s when he noticed the top center portion of the door had been partially pried open in an attempt to dislodge the door from its track. The damage prevented the door from opening at all, and the victim told officers nothing in the garage appeared to have been taken.

Vandalism: 2600 block of Willowhaven Drive. A man contacted the Sheriff’s Department to report that sometime between 8 p.m. on Friday and 3 p.m. the following day, someone had made several scratches on the driver’s side door and rear panel of his wife’s 2013 Hyundai Genesis while it was parked in front of their residence. Their son noticed the damage when he arrived at the vehicle that afternoon. A deputy took several photos of the damage to book into evidence, noting that approximately one month ago, the man had reported similar damage done to another vehicle while it was parked at the same residence.
