Deputies seek two suspects in La Cañada home burglary

Neighbors living near La Cañada High School were alarmed by the sound of a low-flying helicopter Wednesday night, as Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department deputies searched for two suspects they believed had burglarized an Alveo Road home and fled on foot.

A concerned resident called the Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Station at about 9:10 p.m. to report seeing two prowlers running through yards in the area, Sgt. Hector Mancinas said Thursday afternoon.

When deputies responded, they noticed a home in the 4600 block of Alveo had been illegally entered and ransacked. The owners were not home at the time, Mancinas said, and the suspects were thought to have entered through a sliding glass door at the rear of the house that had been left open.

“They ransacked it, and then it looks like they exited through a back door,” Mancinas reported, adding that the homeowner later arrived on scene and reported some jewelry was missing.

The witness described the suspects as two white males, appearing to be in their teens and weighing between 145 and 150 pounds. One was about 5 feet 9 inches, while the other was described as being around 5 feet 10 inches in height.

Helicopter assistance was called in, since the alleged burglars had been seen in the area, the watch commander said.

“They were trying to coordinate their efforts to see if they could locate them,” Mancinas said of the search, which was ultimately unsuccessful.

Anyone who may have more information on the suspects or the incident is asked to contact Det. Frank Diana at (818) 248-3464.
