Seventy-two golfers teed up Monday for a tournament at La Cañada Flintridge Country Club that raised some green — more than $10,000 — in support of enrichment programs offered at Palm Crest Elementary School.

Chaired by Brian Parker, a member of the Palm Crest PTA Dad’s Committee, the golf was preceded by lunch. There was a popular 50/50 putting contest that raised $3,000 alone and the day concluded with cocktails to the sounds of live jazz. Serving as emcee for the day was TV newsman Manny Medrano.

“This was the first time for me to be on the planning and organizing side of a golf event; I have played in many,” Parker said. “This was probably the best time I ever had in a tournament.”

The committee, led by Tracy Jeandron, raises funds for about 30 programs, including the school’s Robotics Club, Science Appreciation Week and iRead summer reading program — all of which are chaired by fathers, according to PTA President Melissa Mazin.

Noting that the Dad’s Committee has been in existence only since 2012, Mazin said the group has “accomplished a lot in a very short span of time.”
