James Brown’s son to visit La Cañada bookstore

Daryl Brown, son of legendary singer James Brown, will visit La Cañada Monday evening to discuss his newly published book “Inside the Godfather,” which explores the complex life and personality behind the persona.

The appearance, hosted by Flintridge Bookstore and Coffeehouse, begins at 7 p.m. and will conclude with a book signing.

“Inside the Godfather” weaves together Daryl Brown’s own narrative with insight gleaned from those inside his father’s inner circle. The book, according to a release, aims to set the record straight about the oft-misunderstood soul singer and shed light on the important role he played in the nation’s civil rights movement.

The author’s visit to the Los Angeles area coincides with, but is unrelated to, producer Brian Glazer’s new biopic on James Brown, “Get on Up,” which hit theaters earlier this month.
