La Cañada officials to watch for flooding, debris flows
With storms poised to arrive last night and continue into the weekend, the city of La Cañada Flintridge reports that all local debris basins are in good condition, but that officials will be keeping an eye out for potential flooding or debris flows.
“The weather indications do give advisories for the ‘recent’ burn areas as listed, but does not specifically name the Station fire area,” said City Manager Mark Alexander in an email interview. “We are cautiously hopeful that the prior run-off combined with hillside growth in the Station fire burn areas over the past four and a half years is sufficient to avoid further mudslide and debris run-off, albeit we can expect some residual or moderate run-off. At the moment, we are not anticipating a major event but will be monitoring conditions.”
Residents who need sand and sandbags can find them on upper Oceanview Boulevard at the Paradise Valley sign, in the Caltrans parking lot on the south side of Foothill Boulevard across from Memorial Park, at Los Angeles County Fire Department Stations 19 and 82, and at Fire Camp 2 on Oak Grove Drive immediately south of the JPL campus.
