La Canada 10, Servite 9: Things haven’t come easy for the Spartans at Pasadena City College this season and that continued Wednesday evening in a narrow one-goal victory over the Friars.

Symeon Stefan scored a team-high six goals to lead La Cañada, which had a four-goal lead (10-6) with about five minutes to go and were up three with about three minutes left, but nearly saw it slip away.

“We had a few bad turnovers and we gave up some counter-attack goals, which you just can’t do there,” said La Cañada Coach Devon Borisoff, whose team also just squeaked by Mira Costa, 11-10, at PCC on Oct. 6.

Chase Borisoff drew six ejections and had four steals and three assists for the Spartans (15-6), who had three goals and an assist from Alden Geller and two assists and six steals from Bryce Hopkins.

“We really look at these games as a big time tune-up for the playoffs,” said Devon Borisoff, whose team is ranked No. 1 in CIF Southern Section Division III. “At the end of the season we always schedule Servite and Villa Park because they’re always powerhouses. We play all these easy games in league three weeks before the playoffs and you can’t just expect to turn it on at the end there.”

Flintridge Prep 18, La Salle 2: John Treinen and Ethan Vandeventer each scored four goals apiece Wednesday to lead the host Rebels to an 18-2 Prep League win against La Salle. Diego Delgado scored three goals for Flintridge Prep, which improved to 14-8, 5-3 in league.
