The Goal of our NIE Program is to make our newspapers available to all local students to be used as an educational tool to help improve test scores and make our students aware and interested in their local environment.
NEWSPAPERS A CLASS ACT
Underwritten by business and The Virginia Gazette Companies, LLC
The Newspaper-In-Education program is a national system of cooperation between school districts and 700 local newspapers. Funding is fully underwritten by local business, professional and private individuals at no cost to schools.
The newspaper helps bridge the gap between the classroom and the student's real world.
Motivation for reading is built in because the paper:
Deals in reality, what's happening now. Contains practical vocabulary, current today. Can be cut and pasted by young children. Helps teach students to write for a purpose. Is the most up-to-date social studies text. Tells what's going on in student's hometown.
