now has three children to care for. The Grammy Award winner and recent mother of twins who once sat atop the pop charts with her single, "Fantasy," is now the godmother of the Disney Fantasy.
brought Carey, husband Nick Cannon and a gaggle of celebrities aboard to christen the world's newest cruise ship.
"I christen thee Disney Fantasy. May God bless this ship and all who sail on it," said Carey while joined in the Fantasy's atrium by
as well as Disney CEO Bob Iger and Parks and Resorts Chairman Tom Staggs.
At that moment, a larger-than-life faux champagne bottle spouted the apropos glitter in lieu of the actual bubbly stuff while Carey's husband Cannon accompanied
, who actually struck the hull of the Fantasy with a real bottle of champagne to bring the line's fourth ship into service.
"The Disney Fantasy is a spectacular addition to our fleet and builds on the creativity, innovation and artistry that are hallmarks of the Disney Cruise Line," Iger said. "Like her sister ship, the Dream, the Fantasy will connect guests to iconic Disney characters and storytelling, creating unforgettable, one-of-a-kind vacation experiences for the entire family."
Staggs added, "From stem to stern, the Disney Fantasy was designed and built with the singular purpose of surprising and delighting our guests, helping them make memories to last a lifetime."
Carey, a New York native, is no stranger to Disney having performed at the Disney Parks Christmas Day Parade in both 2005 and 2010 among other engagements.
Other celebrities on hand included New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg,
and Tim Gunn.
The Fantasy arrived in New York on Tuesday morning having made its first transatlantic voyage after spending the last year under construction at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenberg, Germany. The ship sails out of New York on Friday afternoon on its way to its new home,
The 4,000-passenger, 1,115-foot-long ship will sail alternating 7-day eastern and western Caribbean itineraries with stops at Disney's private Bahaman island Castaway Cay. The Fantasy is the sister ship of the Disney Dream, which also sails out of Port Canaveral. The Dream debuted in January 2011.
The line's two older ships will be spreading the Disney brand to several ports and destinations in the next year with the Disney Magic making New York is summer home before repositioning to the port of Galveston, Texas this fall. The Disney Wonder, currently sailing Mexican Riviera cruises will be heading to the port of Seattle this summer for Alaskan cruises, but will head back to the East Coast this winter and make the port of Miami its home.
The Fantasy is expected to arrive at Port Canaveral on March 6 and will sail on its maiden voyage on March 31. It was the first of the four Disney ships to be christened outside of Central Florida. The Dream's christening ceremony last January featured a helicopter slamming a similar faux bottle of champagne against the hull while the Dream's godmother, Oscar-winner and former American Idol contestant Jennifer Hudson looked on.
