 MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) -- Madison Chamber of Commerce managing
director Sallie Wagner has come to accept the long distance charges
when calling the Decatur Chamber of Commerce that's located only
"ten miles up the road." But changes are coming -- more than
20-thousand Alabama BellSouth customers will soon be free of those
long distance fees when the phone carrier expands its local calling
areas in Mobile, Baldwin, Washington, Madison and Morgan counties.
   TALLADEGA, Ala. (AP) -- Talladega County sheriff's investigators
say three teenagers are in custody -- each charged in last week's
ambush attack that critically injured a newspaper carrier. The
three are charged with attempted murder and first-degree robbery.
Christy Haywood was attacked around midnight on March 29th on a
rural road, northeast of Childersburg. Bail was set at 500-thousand
dollars each.
   COLUMBUS, Miss. (AP) -- The body of a west Alabama man was found
(today) Tuesday in the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway, near where his
overturned boat had been discovered this past weekend. Lowndes
County, Mississippi, Coroner Greg Merchant said the man had been
identified as 43-year-old Tim Johnson, from Ethelsville (Pickens
   MOULTON, Ala. (AP) -- A veteran Moulton police officer accused of
buying illegal prescription drugs from an undercover narcotics
agent made 18 drug-related arrests in 2006 and was named the
Dayshift Officer of the Year. The state attorney general's office
charged 43-year-old Octavius Hamilton with possession of a
controlled substance for allegedly buying Xanax in a grocery store
parking lot Friday night.
