University of Nebraska head football coach Bo Pellini and his Cornhuskers had a Holiday Bowl to forget, losing to Washington 19-7. But a bizarre "joke" Pellini played on a U.S. Navy sailor at the game is something that people likely won't forget for some time.

According to, Pelini and Washington head coach Steve Sarkisian visited sailors aboard the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Ronald Reagan, where he gave Petty Officer 3rd Class Morgan Ryan, a die-hard Husker fan, a team jersey, field pass and the opportunity to call one play during the December 30th game in front of the carrier's crew in a moment captured on video.

"I was just real shocked," Ryan told's Lisa Horne. "(Pelini) told me, 'Congratulations, we'll see you on Thursday (game day).' "

Ryan, an electronics technician who says that he hopes to someday join the Special Forces, says that at the game Pellini was angry over the way the game had been going, and he never gave the sailor a chance to call a play as promised.

When asked by reporters about it after the game, an angry Pelini called the incident "a joke," which stunned Ryan.

"I would rather not think about that," he told FOXSports.
