It's opening day for the Kansas City Royals! Temperatures will be cool, struggling to reach 50 degrees, and traffic may move slower than normal even though the George Brett Bridge has opened.
Toby Cook with the Royals said although the bridge and ramps are open, fans should leave early for Thursday's game against the Angels. Game time begins at 3:10, but Cook said fans will want to be in their seats by 2:30 in order to see the opening ceremonies.
As for construction, the massive I-70 expansion project near the sports complex, will continue throughout the year. Officials hope to have it completed by the end of November. During the baseball season, Matt Killion, an engineer with MODOT, said fans from the north may be inconvenienced when the state shuts down the ramp from southbound I-435 onto eastbound I-70.
"We'll have some daily lane closures on I-70 and on I-435 as we continue the project, but as far as a permanent closure there won't be anything in place," said Killion.
FOX 4's Sports will be at the game and will have a complete report on the game tonight on FOX 4 News at 9. You can follow FOX 4 Sport on Facebook by clicking here.Copyright © 2014, Los Angeles Times
