BRYNN THAYER as Leanne McIntyre

Brynn Thayer, appeared in numerous TV series and movies such as "Murder She Wrote," "Empty Nest," and a " Dick Van Dyke Mystery," before gaining recognition as the daughter of defense attorney Ben Matlock in "Matlock."

As chance would have it, Bymn first guest-starred on the series as a murderess. Later, Andy Griffith, who stars as Matlock, showed his approval of her acting by asking her to return in a new role, that of his daughter. It turned out to be a regular part, with Brynn playing Matlock's bright, resourceful daughter and law partner.

"I was thrilled, to say the least," said Brynn. "It's interesting playing a daughter. Daughters and fathers can have such a complex relationship. On the show, we're each other's closestfamily." Matlock is a widower and his daughter is divorced from her lawyer-husband.

Brynn, like Andy Griffith, was a teacher for three years before changing careers. A native Texan, she taught elementary school in Richardson, Texas, and in Fairfax, Virginia soon after graduating from the University of Arkansas.

"I think teaching is all about acting," she said with a smile, "To keep all those kids interested and entertained all day long takes very good acting."

When she decided to change careers, Brynn moved to New York City, became a model and studied acting at the HB studio. She later won the popular role of Jenny on ABC's daytime drama "One Life to Live," with no prior professional credits. Her popularity is evidenced in the fact she played the role for seven years before setting out for Hollywood to act in a wide variety of television and film projects.

There, she was a series regular with Richard Chamberlain on "Island Son," and on "TV 101." She also guest-starred on "Murder She Wrote," and "Jake and the Fatman" plus "Diagnosis Murder" starring Dick Van Dyke.

Her feature movies include "The Tracker," " Kansas" and " Big Shots." In the theater, Brynn starred with Robin Strasser in "A Couple of White Chicks Sitting Around Talking," which they also toured.

An outdoorswoman, Brynn loves sports, including scuba diving, white water rafting, tennis, skiing and horseback riding.
