May 22-23--Mark your calendars and spend the day with family and friends at the Village of Riverside's Annual Arts Fair. Stroll this juried and competitive outdoor Arts Fair as you take in the original works of art from over 70 talented artists. View and even treat yourself to exciting works of sculpture, painting, photography, glasswork, jewelry, fiber, ceramics, wood and multimedia compositions.
After wandering the Arts Fair and meeting the artists, bring your children to create their own works of art at our hands-on children's art booth where free activities are available throughout the weekend. What a wonderful way to spend an early summer day!
The Riverside Arts Fair will be held from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM on Saturday, May 22 and from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM on Sunday, May 23 on Quincy Street in downtown Riverside.
Another important art-related feature of Riverside not to be missed is the Riverside Arts Center, established in 1993 and serving Riverside and surrounding suburbs with classes and fine art exhibitions. Located on the same street this year as the Fair, the Arts Center's Freeark Gallery and sculpture garden will be open to the public. A group painting show, entitled "Pink", curated by the Anne Harris of the Chicago Art Institute, will be on view in the gallery. Additionally, there will be ceramics and other fine art objects created at the Center on view and available for sale. For more information, please go to riversideartscenter.com.
Stroll, bike or take a walking tour of this National Historic Landmark Village located just minutes west of downtown Chicago. Designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, the Father of Landscape Architecture, the Village of Riverside is one of the first planned suburban communities and is renowned as one the nation's earliest and best examples of rail-oriented development. Founded in 1869, we are a National Historic Landmark community recognized by the National Park Service for our Landscape Architecture. Graced by old homes and remarkable architecture, an historical museum, expansive green parks and long public commons areas, curvilinear streets, and gas-lit street lanterns, the Village of Riverside offers a unique and historic setting to enjoy an excellent Arts Fair and explore a beautiful and historic community. A walking tour of the Village is scheduled for 2:00 PM on Saturday, led by a Frederick Law Olmsted Society member.
