So Rep. Jeff Landry is running for re-election and the Times Picayune’s constitutionally-hapless doyenne has a deadline for her editorial, mix the two and voila! Say hello to Stephanie Grace’s, graceless embrace1 of President Obama’s deadly, unconstitutional treachery in Libya.
You see, to embarrass the Tea Party - or anyone who has ever been sighted with the Lipton Tea-Man - Grace has to embrace the unconstitutional babbling of madmen like Senator John McCain and congressman David Dreier. Recall that without seeking a congressional declaration of war, President Obama ordered acts of war against Libyan strongman Moumar Ghadaffi.
That inconvenient piece of unread parchment, the US Constitution, gives Congress the exclusive power of declaring war5. This was done because the Constitution’s Framers were mortified over the prospect of a standing army such as we have today.
The great George Mason, a delegate from VA, famously said2 “once a standing army is established in any country the people lose their liberty.” Obama calling forth the standing Army to provide air power to help track then assassinate Ghadaffi provides a modern example of Mason’s fear.
Obama’s impeachable offense led to Libya’s “Arab Spring”, which led to Mrs Clinton’s appointment and assignment of a new ambassador to Libya, Christopher Stevens, who was savagely murdered by the now-in-power mob, running Libya in Ghadaffi’s absence. This prompted Landry to feebly call for an end to Libyan foreign aid for what Dreier called a “fledgling democrac[y]”3 while McCain doubled down on the war chant saying that leaving Libya would be “incredibly foolish”4.
No Senator, what is incredibly foolish is letting Obama & Clinton get away with their impeachable acts.
Grace chides Landry for “government by gimmick” and for copping out and being against something - the subsidy of terrorists in Libya & Egypt - rather than for something - Obama’s illegal use of military might which is endorsed by the 3 stooges: Grace, McCain & Dreier.
This, while hundreds of millions of Muslims in the Middle East despise our government’s actions and us by proxy. Actions that peace seeking, constitution abiding Americans should reject even if a complicit press corps thinks that Just War and the Constitution are just gimmicks.
