The board governing New Orleans' convention center is expecting to lose more money because of a decline in attendance at meetings and conferences this year.
The center's general manager, Bob Johnson, says events are still occurring, but they're down in terms of space used and attendance. For example, Johnson says a meeting of the National Automobile Dealers Association drew only 60 percent of its usual attendance.
The board is projecting a loss this year of $11.7 million, up from the original projection of $7.8 million. Johnson says the loss will be covered by the center's reserves.Copyright © 2014, Los Angeles Times
