A federal appeals court has ruled that agovernment contractor isn't immune from liability for its work on aNew Orleans floodwall and levee system that failed during HurricaneKatrina.
Tuesday's ruling by the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appealsrevives claims against Washington Group International Inc. overIndustrial Canal levee breaches that flooded the city's Lower 9thWard.
Plaintiffs' lawyers claim the firm employed excavation andbackfilling methods that undermined the levees' integrity.
