New Orleans - The devastating oil spill may have shut down several fishing areas along the coast, but there's still plenty of great Louisiana seafood out there, and the Oyster Festival is here to prove it.
This weekend, Acme Oysters will join other local vendors and bands in the French Quarter for a festival complete with live music, oysters and even an oyster eating contest.
"The combination of the Mississippi River along with the salt water of the Gulf of Mexico creates an environment that can't be duplicated anywhere," said Acme Oyster's Lucien Gunter.
Proceeds from the Oyster Festival benefit the "Save Our Coast" organization.
"Here's an opportunity to come out and enjoy great music great food and know that the money you are going to spend will be put to great use," Gunter said.Copyright © 2014, Los Angeles Times
