Former Senator Booked With DWI Days Before Trial

Days before his second trial on tax evasioncharges, former state Sen. Charles D. Jones is booked with drivingwhile intoxicated.

Jones, whose phone number is unpublished, could not be reachedfor comment Sunday. Attorney Mike Small did not immediately returna call.

The News-Star reports that Ouachita Parish sheriff's deputiespulled Jones over late Friday for allegedly failing to use a turnsignal.

The police report said he was unsteady and using his car forbalance, refused a field sobriety test but took a breath test atOuachita Correctional Center. The report says his blood alcoholcontent was 0.09 percent. Louisiana's legal limit is 0.08 percent.

Jones' retrial on the tax charges begins Monday in Shreveport.His first jury was unable to reach a verdict.
