The next time the Saints practice it will be in late July to kick off training camp. And when camp kicks off, defensive end Greg Romeus will be out, quarterback Chase Daniel will be in.

Head coach Joe Vitt said Romeus, a 2011 7th round draft pick, will miss the next 6 to 8 months with a torn ACL and MCL.  According to Vitt, Romeus was just running when the injury occured 2 days ago.

Quarterback Chase Daniel hit the thumb of his throwing hand on a helmet 2 days ago.

"We could describe this as a sprain, but there's a hairline fracture there, so he's not going to throw for the next two and a half weeks," Vitt said of Daniel's injury. "He will be ready for training camp. He's fine. There's no surgery involved. He's in a splint. He will be ready to go."

Vitt still said he expects quarterback Drew Brees, currently franchised tag and unsigned, to be in training camp on time.

Vitt said this about the 2012 New Orleans Saints: "This might be the most talented football team we've ever had here."

Vitt said no decision's been made on who will assume the duties of the head coach when he leaves to serve a 6-game suspension at the start of the 2012 season.

He said what the Saints are facing including the season long suspensions of head coach Sean Payton and middle linebacker Jonathan Vilma is unprecedented, but he said he wouldn't want to be anywhere else.

"This is  the best job I've have ever had. And let me say I don't like the food. I can't eat the food. It doesn't sit well with me. I love the people. The fans here are great. The passion for football, the resolve of this community. It's best place I have lived."

The Saints final off season workout was Wednesday. On Thursday, the team will play golf.
