Halloween Apps: Fun ways to bring the scare to your smartphone or tablet

On tonight's WGN News at Five, I'll be talking about Halloween-themed apps you can download to your smartphone or tablet. Here they are...

Costumes HD (FREE, iPad/iPhone)

For the record, I've never ordered a costume through this app. But with 5,000 options, it's a useful too when dreaming up ideas.

Make A Zombie (FREE, iPad/iPhone)

There are tons of pumpkin carving apps out there, but this one gave me a laugh. It's called Make A Zombie, and it allows users to......make a zombie. But they're not really the scary, wouldn't-share-this-with-the-world type of zombie. They're actually kind of cute.

Giggle Ghosts ($.99, iPad/iPhone)

This app from Busy Bee Studios is aimed at young kids. They count ghosts and help them bounce over chimneys to get to their "ghost party." It's a really simple app with a nice design, along with some basic math.

iPoe ($1.99, iPad/iPhone)

If you're a fan of Edgar Allen Poe's work, you'll enjoy this one. iPoe takes a few of the author's famous stories and adds music and interactive graphics. It manages to do all of this without being TOO cheesy - turn off the lights, put in the headphones, and enjoy.

The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown ($4.99, iPad,iPhone)

Of course we all love the Charlie Brown Halloween special that airs this time of year - the iPad version is just as fun. The interactive story features fun graphics, narration from Peter Robbins, and music. It's $4.99, which makes it a bit pricey compared to the others, but it's got a nostalgia factor like no other.
