A striking Chicago Public Schools teacher was hit by a car while picketing in the Humboldt Park neighborhood.

The 62-year-old teacher was struck at about 8 a.m. Wednesday near Chicago and Western avenues.

Police say the veteran teacher was picketing near Chopin Elementary School when he was struck by a car heading east on Chicago, causing him to hit his head on the car.

He was hospitalized with injuries that were not life-threatenting.

The driver was cited for not having insurance and failure to exercise due care to avoid hitting a pedestrian.
