Ben Hebert aka DJ Tony Skratchere was born New Iberia, Louisiana and at an early age was exposed to hip hop and its culture. He started DJing in 1995 and since then has shared the stage with some of the prominent MC’s in hip hop such as Slick Rick, Mobb Deep, Ghostface Killer, Planet Asia, and most recently Camp Lo. DJ Skratchere is a vinyl only Dee Jay which he says helps with keeping his skills and craft as a turntablist sharp.
He feels with the digital age of music and downloading has killed off the art and hobby of crate digging for vinyl and the craft of vinyl only DJing seems to have fallen to the wayside and it seems that both veteran DJs as well as the up and comers are resorting to laptop format of playlist DJing. He competed in his first DMC in 2005 and has most recently battled in the 2009 and 2010 DMC’s. He hopes that one day after his career as a Dee Jay is over he would like to start up a school program or to teach a class on the art and history of DJing.
