Police are asking for the public's help in locating a man who attempted to sexually assault a 13-year-old in Morningside Heights while the boy walked to school.

The man reportedly walked up to the boy around 7:30 a.m. on December 23rd and befriended him -- surveillance footage from a nearby building shows the two walking together before the alleged attack happened.

After passing the camera, located on 110th St. And Columbus Ave., the suspect pulled the boy into a stairwell where police say he tried to sexually assault him.

The teen managed to struggle away unharmed, and now the police are hoping someone will recognize his attacker from surveillance footage. The suspect is described as a black male in his 30s, who was wearing a green jacket, tan pants, black sneakers and a light brown hat.

Police are urging anyone with information to call their confidential tip line at 1-800-577-TIPS.
