Police are investigating the stabbing death of a 9-year-old boy in Morningside Heights.
Fourth-grader, Anthony Maldonado of Palisades Park, N.J. was reportedly stabbed inside a housing project Saturday, while visiting relatives.
The boy's uncle told police he knocked on his door at 3:30 a.m., saying he had been stabbed, and then collapsed.
Police were called to the family's sixth floor apartment at 75 LaSalle St., in the Ulysses S. Grant Houses project.
The boy was rushed to St. Luke's Hospital in critical condition, where he was later pronounced dead.
No arrests have been made, but police are questioning a 24-year-old man who was at the apartment at the time of the stabbing.
The suspect and his two younger brothers lived with the boy's uncle.
Anthony had been playing a skateboarding video game with the three brothers when the 17- and 20-year-old left to get hamburgers, his mother said. The brothers told Anthony to stay in the apartment because it was cold outside.
The boy was stabbed shortly after the two left the apartment.
Cops are still trying to locate a murder weapon.Copyright © 2014, Los Angeles Times
