Proposed Tunnel May Ease City Traffic

State transportation officials are considering building a tunnel.

It would stretch from the Prospect Expressway to the Brooklyn Navy Yard. It would bypass all of Downtown and make way for repairs on the crumbling section of the BQE in Brooklyn Heights.

The two and a half mile tunnel is one of several options for replacing the highway. It is being considered by the State Department of Transportation and it's an idea many like.

Previously the state considered an expansion of the BQE that would have required the seizure of hundreds of homes and businesses. The possibility was taken off the table after a pubic outcry.
