Police have arrested a man they believe robbed and sexually attacked two women on the same block in Brooklyn within 20 minutes of each other.

Abdallah Elawar, 22, is under arrest Wednesday and is currently charged with robbery in the first degree and assault.

Police from the 68th Precinct in Bay Ridge were reviewing new, higher-quality surveillance footage when they had a breakthrough in the case: the officers realized that the suspect strongly resembled a local man with a long history of summonses, police said.

Detectives looked up Elawar's address at 577 84th St. -- just two blocks from the attacks -- and arrested him when he came home this afternoon, according to police.

Elawar was picked out of a lineup by one victim and will be arraigned late tonight or tomorrow, police said.

Cops say the first attack happened on Friday, February 25 at 11:20 p.m. when a 44-year-old woman near 82nd Street in Bay Ridge opened the front door of her residential building. The suspect pointed a gun to her back and forced her into the building.

He struck the woman on the side of her face with the gun, and stole her cell phone and cash. The suspect also attempted to sexually assault the woman but failed.

Twenty minutes later on the same street, at 11:40 p.m., the man approached a 22-year-old woman and pointed a gun at her.

The suspect forced the woman to the rear of a residential building, where he raped her and stole her cell phone.

Elawar has a history of petty crimes, but he was also arrested on a statutory rape charge two years ago. The Brooklyn District Attorney decided not to prosecute in that case.

Elawar is currently being held at Brooklyn Criminal Court for booking.
