The New York Islanders have suspended Goalie Evgeni Nabokov for not reporting to the team since being acquired earlier this month. Nabokov signed a one-year contract with the Detroit Red Wings on January 20 and was then claimed off waivers by the Islanders two days later.

Nabokov has refused to report to Long Island and is reportedly unhappy he is not on a contending team. The Islanders are the NHL's third worst team in the league with a 15-25 record and 37 points in 47 games.

The 35-year old Russian native played all nine NHL seasons with San Jose before leaving for Russia's KHL at the end of last season. He leads the Sharks in nearly every goaltending category, including games played, wins, and shutouts. The Sharks lost to the Chicago Blackhawks in the Western Conference Finals last year.
