Crane Being Transported Down East River Hits Brooklyn Bridge

Brooklyn Bridge

A crane being transported on a barge struck the scaffolding attached to the Brooklyn Bridge Tuesday night.

Around 8:15 p.m. the crane collided with the roughly 20 feet of scaffolding underneath the bridge, but it's not known if the bridge itself was damaged.

The incident caused the closure of two lanes of traffic and there were delays in both directions.

Department of Transportation engineers are inspecting the bridge to determine if any harm was done to the historic structure.

The scaffolding is set up for workers who are currently repainting the bridge.
