Last week, a 21-year-old man was hit and killed by a city bus at the intersection of Broadway and 23rd Street in the Flatiron District. His death has now sparked another to speak up. Joerg Schwartz, president of Madison Green, a condo complex, says he and other tenants are concerned for pedestrians when they cross 23rd street and buses come down Broadway looking to turn onto 23rd.
"I regret that I've never said anything about it. I'm a long time New Yorker and we accept a lot of abuse. I'm quite sad none of us spoke up," said Schwartz.
Schwartz wrote to the Department of Transportation, pleading for something to be done to make the intersection safer to cross.
"I've always noticed when the buses come in, particularly during rush hour they speed up as they approach the intersection," said Schwartz.
Schwartz has already received a response from the DOT, who said they would look into the matter further.Copyright © 2014, Los Angeles Times
