Traffic Stop In Brooklyn Leads To Fatal Shooting

A 22-year-old unidentified man is dead after being shot by police following a traffic stop in Brooklyn. Cops say the incident started just before 10 p.m. Thursday night in the Red Hook section when officers pulled over a car with four people inside near the intersection of Huntington and Henry Streets.

Sources tell PIX11 that one of the guys was trying to hook up with a prostitute.

When the car was stopped one of the guys jumped out and ran, according to police. Cops say an officer chased him on foot over to Hamilton Avenue and Clinton street where the two wrestled under the Brooklyn Queens Expressway.

During the struggle investigators say the guy pulled a gun from his waistband as the cop tried to mace him. The cop fired at least one shot hitting the guy in the head, according to police.

The Daily News is reporting that their photographer saw the dead man lying on his stomach with a gaping wound to the back of his head. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The officer was taken to Lutheran Medical Center for treatment of unspecified injuries. The investigation is continuing.
